Dilmun Temple from 3,000 BC

The Barbar Temple is an archaeological site located in the village of Barbar. This temple-complex provides a glimpse into the ancient Dilmun civilization’s beliefs and customs. The Barbar temple-complex is comprised of three temples built as early as 3,000 BC. A sunken chamber which was built around a fresh water spring serves as the focal point of the complex. The spring is believed to be associated with the Mesopotamian God of sweet water, Enki, whose legend is mentioned in the ancient text “The Epic of Gilgamesh.”
